establishments catering to those whose primary distinguishing feature is independence
from public sewage disposal systems through the use of septic tanks, without the
production of industrial wastes."
Existing and Proposed Septic Tank Usage
Existing Septic System
According to the Site Plan prepared by Quartaroli & Associates (2017), one septic
system exists on the Site to serve the house.
Proposed Septic System
A new septic system is proposed to serve the new building.
On-Site Septic Permit History
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department septic permit files were
searched for the Site address. One permit was identified. The permit, dated October
2013, was for repair to the existing septic system at the residence; it indicated that a
cesspool was destroyed at the same time. The repaired system utilized a 1,200-gallon
tank and a 16- by 40-foot filter bed. This permit is included in Appendix 4 of this report.
Existing Septic Tank Usage in the Vicinity
To estimate the septic system usage in the area, our office counted septic systems that
exist within approximately one square mile surrounding the property. Air photo imagery
from Google Earth was used. Each building cluster on the photo was assumed to have
one septic system. Using this method, it is estimated that at least 20 septic systems per
square mile are located in the immediate vicinity of the Site.
The general area primarily consists of open agricultural land. A power substation is
located adjacent to the west of the Site, and a fuel storage facility is located adjacent to
the south. A residential subdivision is located approximately one-quarter mile west of
the Site, and an old dairy is located approximately one-third of a mile northwest of the
Site.
Septic Permit History in the Vicinity
Based on a review of septic permits on file at the San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Department for nearby properties, most septic systems in the area utilize leach
lines or filter beds. The septic permits can be found in Appendix 4 of this report.
LOGE 1843 Page 2
