The site location is shown on Figure 1,
' at the end of this report.
A small shopping center exists on the property. The shopping center was built in
the late 1950's. Most of the stores on the site have since gone out of business;
' several have been demolished. A coin-operated laundry and a Taco Bell Restaurant
remain in operation on the property.
' A portion of the site is a paved parking lot. A forty feet wide strip of property
along the southern border of the site is unpaved.
1.2 Physical Setting
' The subject property is located in the Central Valley geomorphic province. The
Central Valley is a long, linear, westwardly tilting trough, bounded by the Cascade
and Coast Ranges to the west and the Sierra Nevada to the east. Approximately
3000 feet of marine sedimentary deposits overlie the Jurassic granitic basement
rocks of the valley. Thick alluvial deposits derived from the bordering mountain
ranges cover the valley's surface, giving it its characteristically flat appearance.
' According the Geologic Map of the Sacramento Quadrangle, published by the State
of California Division of Mines and Geology in 1987, most of the subject property
is located on the deposits of the lower member of the Modesto Formation. This
formation is described as unconsolidated, slightly weathered gravel, sand, silt and
clay. This formation is estimated to have been formed between 20,000 and 42,000
years ago.
According to the San Joaquin County Flood Control and Water Conservation
' District's Spring 1990 Semi-Annual Groundwater Report, the depth to water in the
Lodi Area was approximately 40 feet below the ground surface in 1989. However,
shallow perched aquifers may also exist in this area. According to data published
' in the State of California Department of Water Resources' Historical Ground Water
Levels in San Joaquin County(April 1990), the direction of the regional
groundwater flow is to the south -southwest. Localized pumping and seasonal
' influences can greatly affect the depth to groundwater and the groundwater
gradient.
13 jq
ANOER5ON
t CONSULTING
GROUP
0
