1 i
1
File No. 249947 20 May 1991 Page 8
1 When trenching was complete, the trenches were backfilled with the excavated soil.
The trenched areas were compacted by driving the backhoe over the area several
1 times.
Four soil samples were obtained from this area, in the locations noted below:
1 1
ts.4: Eastern end of Trench 1
S-5: Approximate center of Trench 1, near abandoned water pipe
S-6: Western end of Trench 1
1 S-7: Northern end of Trench 2
Samples S-4 and S-7 were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons (EPA Method
1 8015), and volatile constituents (EPA Method 8020). The results of laboratory
analyses in included in Section 2.2.
1 Sand and grease traps. During our site visits on 2 May 1990 and 21 April 1991, the
sand and grease traps on the site were found to contain water. The water had a
1 noticeable floating petroleum product and a strong petroleum odor. '
The sand and grease traps from the car wash were found to have been installed in
1 the center of concrete pads. The pads could not be broken by the backhoe
equipment. The soil from this area was therefore not inspected, so no sampl s were
taken.
1
2.2 Laboratory Results
1 The results of laboratory analyses follow. A complete copy of the laboratory results
is included as Appendix B at the end of this report.
1 TABLE 2 RESULTS OF LABORATORY ANALYSES FOR TPH
1 SAMPLE
NUMBER TPH (ppm) as Gasoline TPH (ppm) as Diesel
S-1 N D N D
1 S-2 N D N D
S-3 N D N D
SA ND ND
S-7 N D N D
1 ABBREVIATIONS:
ppm : parts per million (or mg/kg).
N D : substance(s) not detected in laboratory analyses.
1 DETECTION LIMITS:
As gasoline : 0.5 ppm
As diesel : 10 ppm
1
ANDERSON
CONSULTING
1
GROUP
a
