SITE AND VICINITY GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS <br /> The subject property is located within an agricultural area of unincorporated San Joaquin <br /> County, southeast of the City of Tracy, California. Figure 1 shows the setting of the subject <br /> property (7.5 Minute United States Geological Survey [USGS] Topographic Series, <br /> VERNALIS, California) and prominent features on the subject property are depicted in the <br /> site plan provided as Figures 2 and 3. Photographs of the subject property are provided <br /> in Appendix B. <br /> 2.3. CURRENT USE OF PROPERTY <br /> The property is utilized as single family residential. At the time of the site reconnaissance, <br /> the site was occupied by workers and/or home owners. <br /> 3.0. REGIONAL GEOLOGIC/HYDROGEOLOGIC SETTING <br /> Geology and The property is situated within the Great Valley Geomorphic Province of <br /> Hydrology California, a large, elongate, northwest-trending, asymmetric structural trough. <br /> The Great Valley Province has been filled with thick sequences of sediment <br /> ranging in age from Jurassic to Recent, creating a nearly flat- lying alluvial <br /> plain that extends from the Tehachapi Mountains in the south to the Klamath <br /> Mountains in the north. Western and eastern boundaries of this province are <br /> comprised of the California Coast Range and the Sierra Nevada, respectively. <br /> Rocks composing the basement complex of the province have not been <br /> completely defined but are believed to be of metamorphic and igneous origins. <br /> Northern and southern portions of the Great Valley Province have been <br /> designated the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys, respectively. <br /> Modesto, Riverbank, and Turlock Lake Formations and overlying Recent <br /> alluvium are the principal source of domestic ground water in the 13,500- <br /> square-mile San Joaquin Valley Ground Water Basin (Basin 5-22). This basin <br /> is drained primarily by the San Joaquin River. <br />
