Air HomNehicle Horn <br /> Air horns will be carried by personnel entering any established Exclusion Zone and stationed in <br /> the Support Zone. If air horns fail or are lost, vehicle horns may be used as a substitute. Air <br /> horns will be the primary alarm system and used in the following manner: <br /> One long blast: Evacuate Exclusion Zone by nearest exit. Proceed to assembly <br /> area. <br /> Two short blasts: Localized problem. Avoid area, move to decontamination <br /> Reduction Zone for further instruction. <br /> Three short blasts: All clear, resume work. <br /> Telephones <br /> Telephones are used for routine communication and to notify offsite agencies of incidents and <br /> request assistance. Emergency telephone numbers are given in Table 6. <br /> When an event recognized as an emergency occurs, the alarm system will be used to notify <br /> personnel. As soon as the alarm system is activated, the SSO or FSSO will be notified. <br /> The SSO or FSSO will take into account the following information: <br /> Nature of emergency <br /> Wind direction <br /> Location of personnel <br /> Monitoring results <br /> Emergency equipment available <br /> Offsite population <br /> Based on this information, the SSO or FSSO will direct appropriate emergency action and <br /> agency notification. After the emergency has been controlled and the site is considered safe to <br /> re-enter, the SSO or FSSO will direct remedial action to restore the site to full operating <br /> condition. <br /> The SSO or FSSO will investigate the nature and cause of the incident so that work procedures <br /> can be modified to minimize the likelihood of the incident's recurrence. All incidents must be <br /> reported in a timely, appropriate manner. An incident is any unplanned event resulting in injury, <br /> damage, loss of assets, adverse publicity, or which requires notification of a regulatory agency, <br /> regardless of severity. All K/J personnel should report an incident to the SSO or FSSO. The <br /> SSO and FSSO will report to the project manager. Each incident will be investigated and a <br /> written report should be received by the project manager and the regional safety supervisor <br /> within five days of the incident. <br /> If work zones are established, the Exclusion Zone will have several emergency exits which will <br /> allow safe egress in multiple directions from any point onsite. The exit selection will be based on <br /> the emergency location, type of emergency, and wind direction.
