The main entrance to the
facility is from Main Street. (10)
The Busy Bee site has been the location of a laundry and dry cleaning facility since 1985. The site
is located in an area of a building complex owned by M & P Investments. The dry cleaning
operation at the site was started by Alvin Allmendinger in June 1985. Fred Roes, the current
owner, took over the business in October 1987. Currently, Mr. Roes employs six people on site.
There were several different businesses occupying the site prior to 1985. (10)
The Busy Bee site consists of one building of approximately 2,800 square feet. As shown in
Figure 2-2, the building is divided into three rooms. The room in the northwest area of the
building contains a front counter where clothes are dropped off and picked up. This room also
contains several clothes racks and an office area. The room in the northeast area of the building
contains three washing machines and a Suprema dry cleaning machine. Waste drums containing
condensation water, used filter cartridges, and distillation sludge are stored in this room. A large
barrel containing rags to mop up PCE spills is also stored in this room. The southern part of the
building is used primarily as a clothes pressing area. Clothes racks, a boiler, and two washing
machines are also in this room. (10)
2.3 Operational History
The building in which Busy Bee is located was built in approximately 1907. The building has
been owned by M & P Investments since about 1984. The previous owner of the building was
Alvin Allmendinger. Mr. Allmendinger operated a laundry facility on site and opened a dry
cleaning operation in mid-1985. He operated the facility until October 1987, when Fred Roes
became the owner and operator of Busy Bee. (10,11)
Busy Bee operates a single closed loop dry-to-dry Suprema dry cleaning machine. The machine,
purchased by Mr. Allmendinger in mid-1985, is still in use. The machine has a capacity of
35 pounds of clothes. Seventy-five gallons of PCE are stored in the machine, and about 5 gallons
of PCE are used in the dry cleaning operation every week.
