APPENDIX D
341 000 0
CONTACT REPORT
AGENCY/AFFILIATION: Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB)
DEPARTMENT: Central Valley Region
ADDRESS: 3443 Routier Road, Suite A CITY: Sacramento
COUNTY: San Joaquin STATE: CA ZIP: 95827-3098
CONTACT(S) TITLE PHONE
Polly Lowry Assoc. Engineering (916) 255-3048
Geologist
BEI PERSON MAKING CONTACT: Subbu Mahadevan Sti+ A-I DATE: 11/9/1992
SUBJECT: RWQCB Investigation of Busy Bee Laun
SITE NAME: Busy Bee Laundry EPA ID: CAD 982053944
DISCUSSION: Ms. Lowry has been in charge of investigations at the Busy Bee Laundry site,
suspected to be one of the sources of ground water contamination in Lodi. Presence of
tetrochloroethylene(PCE), with concentrations exceeding the maximum contamination level
(MCL), was detected in municipal Well 3 in June 1989 by the City of Lodi. Investigations by the
RWQCB in September and December 1989, involving soil gas and sewer line sampling,
identified the Busy Bee Laundry site as a potential source of contamination of groundwater.
RWQCB requested a work plan for a site investigation from Busy Bee Laundry in August 1990.
Per RWQCB's request, the work plan was to address the installation of three monitoring wells
and soil sampling analyses. A final work plan was submitted in January 1991 and the
investigations were carried out in February 1991. Luhdorff& Scalmanini (L& S),consultants to
Busy Bee Laundry, conducted the investigations and submitted a report in May 1991. Based on
their findings, L& S recommended that RWQCB or the City of Lodi should conduct further
investigations to determine the source of contamination conclusively. The RWQCB has lacked
the appropriate funding to pursue the matter any further. Ms. Lowry confirmed that Busy Bee
Laundry is not considered to be the only source of groundwater contamination in the area.
CONTACT CONCURRENCE: DATE: z 3 9Z
