V V '(' ,
CONTACT REPORT
AGENCY/AFFILIATION: City of Lodi
DEPARTMENT: Public Works Department
ADDRESS: 1331 S. Ham Lane CITY: Lodi
COUNTY: San Joaquin STATE: CA ZIP: 95242
CONTACT(S) TITLE PHONE
Fran Forkas Water/Wastewater (209) 333-6740
Superintendent
BEI PERSON MAKING CONTACT: Subbu MahadevanDATE: 11/9/1992
SUBJECT: Drinking Water Wells in Lodi
SITE NAME: Guild Cleaners EPA ID: CAD 981638851
DISCUSSION: Mr. Forkas estimated that there are 21 active wells that serve a population of
53,186 people, with an apportioned population per well of 2,532 people. The City is served by a
pressurized grid water system that is fed directly by the wells based on demand. Wells 3 and 4
were closed due to PCE contamination in 1989 and 1990 respectively. Well 12 was also closed
due to fuel contamination in 1991. The City performed television survey work on the sewer
lines. The survey revealed no cracks in the main sewer line. However, the visibility during
television survey was poor due to the pooling of standing water in the sewer line. This suggested
poor construction from a drainage standpoint. The main sewer line is estimated to be between 55-
80 years old. Guild Cleaners has no permit to discharge to the sanitary sewers. Groundwater
flow is to the southwest. The City has also detected dibromochloropropane (DBCP), a pesticide
used in vineyard irrigation, at levels above the MCL in 6 municipal wells south of the City. Mr.
Forkas stated that DBCP was added to irrigation water to eliminate Nematodes, a type of worm,
which would otherwise prove harmful to the vineyards.
CONTACT CONCURRENCE: DATE:
