STANDARD PUBLIC ENVIRONMENTAL RECORD SOURCES
County, State and Federal environmental records were reviewed for contaminated sites which
may have impacted the subject property. The databases accessed did not indicate a problem or
potential problem with the subject site.
The Brown's have owned the property for the past year. Prior to their ownership, the Marchese
family owned and farmed the property for several years. Past surrounding land use has been
agricultural production and very low density residential housing.
There are two primary sources of information which document and define past land use, although
occasionally they are difficult to interpret. The first is the use of aerial photographs. Aerial
photographs of the subject area in the 1950's and 1960's located at the University of California at
Davis, did not show the subject property. The second type of past land use information are
United States Geological Survey (USGS)maps. Three USGS maps were obtained to illustrate
past land use of the subject property. These maps were produced in 1952, 1969 and 1991. The
1952 map illustrates two buildings, possibly sheds in the NWC of the gravel entrance road into
the ranch. There is now no trace of these structures.
INFORMATION FROM SITE RECONNAISSANCE AND INTERVIEWS
The following information was obtained visually and/or through an interview with Mr. Paul
Farnsworth who farms a portion of the property, and Mr. Robert Brown: The subject property
contains no underground or above ground storage tanks (UST/AST). There is at present no on-
site septic system with a tank and leachfield area. When a house is built on Parcel 1, a private
domestic well and septic system will be constructed.
Pesticides (insecticides/herbicides) used in this year's apricot production are not stored on the
subject property. When pesticides are used, an independent applicator is responsible for storage
and container disposal. There were no pesticide containers noted on-site.
The subject property was surveyed for evidence which are indicative of surface and/or subsurface
contamination: There are four transformers on-site with two of them an older style. There was
no sign of any leakage; therefore, there is little concern from polychloride biphenyl (PCB)
contamination. If there was leakage or spillage of PCB laden transformer oil, it would be the
responsibility of the transformer owner to remediate any environmental contamination. There
was no evidence of solid waste disposal. The site was carefully inspected for environmental
concerns originating from discolored, disturbed or subsided soils, stressed vegetation(other than
vegetation sprayed with herbicide), and unusual or noxious odors. None of these environmental
indicators were present.
3
Vaffey Ag Pesearch
