Sheldon Road
Linden, CA 95236-9422
Subject: Proposal for Soil Suitability/Nitrate Loading Study
Proposed Lot Split: 9156 N. Sheldon Road, Linden CA
Dear Mr. Hawley,
Per your request, we are pleased to present you with our proposal for performing a Soil
Suitability/Nitrate Loading Study(SSS/NLS) for the subject site.
The subject property is approximately 10 acres in size. The 10-acre parcel is divided by
Sheldon Road. The separation leaves about 4 acres on the south side and 6 acres on the north
side of Sheldon Road. The north side contains a walnut orchard, the south side is unused acreage
on sloping land. We understand that the proposed project would subdivide the existing 10 acre
parcel into one new parcel and a designated remainder parcel. Most likely, the San Joaquin
County Environmental Health Division will require a percolation test on each parcel.
The Soil Suitability/Nitrate Loading Study is often required by`San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Division for a lot split if the area has experienced ground water impacts
from nitrates (fertilizer, septic, and dairy sources). The SSS/NLS will meet the requirements of
ection 9-1105.2(d) of the San Joaquin County Development Code as indicated by requirement
A general summary of the work to be performed for this project is presented next.
1) Determine use and density of septic systems in surrounding property.
2) Determine soil profile for a minimum depth of ten (10) feet and perform a percolation test
at the proposed septic field site on each of the parcels.
3) Determine depth to ground water using County ground water potentimetric surface maps,
measure water depth in wells if accessible, or by drilling if necessary.
4) Determine the past history of the site as it relates to septic systems and weather septic
systems can be safely installed (includes ground water nitrate and DBCP testing required
by the County).
5) Perform a Nitrate Loading Study(Nitrate balance) for the subject project. This study will
estimate the impacts of utilizing septic systems and other nitrate sources with respect to
ground water contamination.
