Surface And Subsurface Contamination Report MS-98-37 Parcels 1-5
Health Division permit records were reviewed and there were no
noted problems of any septic system failures or need of repair to
existing systems on the subject property. Only one permit was found
within the boundaries covered by this study and it was for
installing a well and did not involve any septic system. The permit
record review indicates that the septic systems have been operating
as designed since their installation and that there has been no
undue flow or seepage to cause contamination from the existing
septic systems .
Land Use: Portions of the subject property are devoted to the
grazing of cattle and horses which could contribute to nitrate
contamination. However , the present number of cattle and horses is
not excessive compared to the acres available and devoted to
grazing. No contamination is anticipated unless the present or less
animal population is not maintained. No other non-point source of
hazardous contamination was manifest .
Portions of the subject property have recently been
established as vineyards and the grapes at the present time are
small and have not reached full maturity. Irrigation is by a drip
system and evidence or provision for incorporating fertilizers or
other chemicals into the irrigation system was evident so no
contamination is anticipated due to the present agricultural use.
History: The present property owner was interviewed and he
disclosed he has never installed any above ground or subsurface
facilities for storing materials . He also apparently knew the
property owner before him for a lengthy time and to his knowledge
no above ground or subsurface storage facilities have been
installed in the past to contribute to hazardous contamination.
Recommendation: As noted in this "Surface And Subsurface
Contamination Report" , there are no known surface or above ground
fuel or other hazardous waste material encasements , chemical
residues , septic system failures , or hazardous material storage
areas to cause any contamination. Also there is or has not been any
subsurface facility construction present or past ; so there is no
surface or subsurface point source contamination that needs to be
corrected.
The present population of animals on the subject property
compared to the total acres available for grazing is not causing
contamination; so there is no non-point contamination that needs to
be corrected.
The subject property continuance of present conditions and use
is not expected to impact ground water nor cause other health
hazards .
Walter E.
