INTRODUCTION <br /> At the request of Exxon Company, U.S.A. , EA has prepared the <br /> following work plan to install new groundwater monitoring wells <br /> at former Exxon Retail Site (RS) 7--1050 in Stockton, California. <br /> i <br /> EA proposes to replace three existing groundwater monitoring <br /> i - wells that have gone dry with the recent lowering of groundwater <br /> elevations in Stockton. The new wells will be installed in <br /> w accordance with all applicable regulations of San jc,aquin County <br /> °.J and the Regional Water Quality Control Board. <br /> i <br /> � 1 . 1 LOCATION AND SITE SETTING <br /> - The site is located at 909 West Hammer Lane, on the northwest. <br /> j corner of West Hammer Lane and bower Sacramento Road, Stockton, <br /> California (Figure 1 ) . The tanks, pump islands, associated <br />> Piping, and buildings were removed in early 1986 after the fuel j <br /> lines a_Lled a tightness test. The dirt surface of .the back- <br /> filled excavation has been graded. The concrete building slabs, <br /> landscaping, and much of the asphalt pavement remain intact. <br /> �-` The site is 'now -being rented as a vacant lot for seasonal "busi- <br /> ..f�. ness, ` such as the selling of pumpkins and Christmas trees, by Tim <br /> j Ambrose Enterprises {.n .Stockton. <br /> � lI Thesite is not secured by a fence, and a significant amount of <br /> vehicle traffic crosses the site to gain access from Hammer..Lane <br /> f tc: the shops behind the site. <br /> 1�x Land use in the immediate area is primarily commercial (Figure . <br /> jr <br /> 2). There is a: Shell service station with operational under- <br /> ground tanks across.
