The site of a former Knowles service station is approximately 200
yards west--southwest of Exxon RS 7-1050 on the southwest corner
of the intersection of Hammer Lane and, Pacific Avenue. Under-
ground tanks were once used to store gasoline at this station.
The station building and underground storage tanks were removed
' from the site in Petrwriry 1990. ? The soil section has been described,
d. using undisturbed samples collected during the drilling of
j borings. Samples of the soil, soil vapor, and groundwater have
been analyzed for petroleum contamination.
Five monitoring wells were installed at the site between November
1.986 and June 1987. The depth to groundwater at that time was
s ? between 47 and 50 feet.
The water level in the wells has dropped since the wells were
y installed (Table 1 ), and MW3, MW4, and MW5 were dry during the ,
,=. ,ummer and fall of 1989. On 28 June 1990, the static depth to ,
water in the various wells was between -57.76 and, 58.35 feet.. MW4
and i'1 5_were dry. f
(
Figure 3 is a geologic cross--section of the subsurface drawn from
I the well logs. The site is on interbedded sands, silts, and
 Clays,
formations that consist of both laterally
E
-heterogeneousY
and. vertically discontinuous fluvial deposits. The principal
aquifer, materials are sand lenses containing some silt and clay
and clay lenses %!ith sand and silt. The aquifer is unconfined,
and no confining layers have been voted in the drilling logs.
, 9
:tee
e42/71050/7-90/tx . 2
i t
