CITY OF TRACE
 bxPOSArea Code 209: 835-2211
P. O. BOX 1029 • TRACY • CALIFORNIA 95376
13 August 1979
Julian Stollard
Dept. of Health
31 E. Channel St.
Room 117
Stockton, CA. 95202
Dear Mr. Stollard:
This letter is to confirm our telephone conversation of August 9 ,
1979 , regarding the elimination of the certification requirement
for the Tracy utilities mechanics that work on our City wells and
also at other City treatment facilities .
We are deleting the certification requirement from the mechanics
job description to facilitate hiring of qualified personnel for the
type of work we have now and also anticipate for the future. I do
not feel that the deletion of certification requirements would
jeapordize any health or safety aspects for the public water supply
whatever, and I assure you we will endeavor to interest our total
staff in voluntary certification on a continuing basis .
The utilities ' mechanic section has maintenance and repair respon-
sibilities for the City wells , sewage lift stations, potable water
treatment plant and the wastewater treatment plant. As the mechanics
do not operate the treatment plants , but do however, operate the
wells as necessary beyond the automatic functions of the systems, we
feel they should not he required to be certifi.ed plant or system
operators .
Any further comment or direction from your office would be appreciated.
Very truly yours ,
WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT
JOHN W.
