-- LIVE OAK GEO ENVIRONMENTAL, INC.
407 W. Oak St., Lodi, CA 95240 ❖ (209)369-0375 ❖ logelodi.com
June 19, 2019 RECEIVED
Project Number: 1928
Linda Turkatte, Director JUN 2 1 2019
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
1868 E. Hazelton Ave. DEPARTMENT
Stockton, CA 95205
Regarding: Discussion of Previous Nitrate Loading Study
And Current Use Numbers
American Crane Rental, Inc.
17800 S. Comconex Rd., Manteca, CA
Ms. Turkatte:
American Crane Rental, Inc. proposes to construct a new 14,400 square foot building
for enclosed equipment storage. It is the understanding of Keith Powell of American
Crane that the Environmental Health Department may request a Soil Suitability/Nitrate
Loading Study to address the construction of the new building. '
At the request of Mr. Powell, we have reviewed a Nitrate Loading Study/Soil Suitability
Study prepared for the American Crane facility by Don Chesney at Provost & Pritchard
Consulting Group in 2012. The purpose of this letter is to consider the values and
assumptions utilized in that report in light of the typical values used by our office, as
well as the current methodology recommended by the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department. We will also evaluate the current proposed project
at the American Crane facility by using the current methodology.
Both Provost & Pritchard and Live Oak GeoEnvironmental use the the Hantzsche and
Finnemore equation (1992) for calculating nitrate loading. The Hantzsche and
Finnemore equation is a conservative approximation of ground-water nitrate-nitrogen
concentration resulting from the combined effect of on-site sewage disposal systems
and percolating recharge waters. The method takes into account the development
area, soil denitrification factor, rate of recharge from percolating waters, waste effluent
quantity, and waste effluent nitrate concentration from on-site septic systems, and
predicts the nitrate concentration of percolating effluent.
Environmental Engineering Geology 4• Geophysics
