• 4.2 Analytical Results
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon concentrations decreased in VM-1 during the second quarter,
whereas benzene and other volatile aromatic compounds all increased slightly (Table 2) This is a
continuation of a trend that began in the third quarter of 1999 Concentrations in VM-3 exhibited
the same trend TPH concentrations also decreased in VM-2 and SW-1, and BTEX
concentrations decreased as well BTEX concentrations remained unchanged in VM-4, but TPH
increased above the detection limit to 94 ppb
5.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
In the First Quarter 2000 Report we concluded that an air sparging test of SW-1 should be
conducted to determine whether air sparging is a potential remediation method for the site
Although this conclusion is still valid, the static water level is now too low to conduct this test
(there is only about 1 foot of water in SW-1) This test could not be performed until the water
level begins to rise in the first quarter of 2001
The Public Works Department (PWD) of the City of Stockton has agreed to grant an
Encroachment permit for drilling in the City sidewalks, contingent upon a signed agreement with
Valley Motors to replace the sidewalk along Grant Street We therefore recommend that Valley
• Motors replace the sidewalk as soon as possible, so that assessment of groundwater
contamination can be completed during the third quarter of 2000 and the site can be evaluated for
possible closure
Twenty-four drums of drill cuttings and ten drums of purge water are still stored at the site
Upgradient Environmental is in the process of obtaining cost estimates for the disposal of these
wastes We anticipate disposing of these materials in July
4
