k'g KLEINFELDER
6 SITE RECONNAISSANCE
A representative from Kleinfelder, Jennifer Young, Staff Geologist, conducted a site
reconnaissance on March 26, 1999, to assess and photograph present site conditions. The
approximate site boundaries are shown in Appendix A, Plate 2 "Site Map" and color photographs
of the site are presented on Plates 3 and 4. The site conditions discussed below are limited to
readily apparent environmental conditions observed.
6.1 GENERAL INFORMATION
The subject site is presently being used as a dairy operation and an agricultural operation. There
are multiple structures on site. Structures include a residence, a milking barn, an office, pole
barn corrals, and sheds. There are two waste water ponds present on site. There are multiple
wells use for domestic and irrigation purposes and a septic system.
6.2 DAIRY OPERATION
The dairy operation consists primarily of the northeast one-quarter of the site. From 800 feet
south of the northern border are row crops (corn). There are two unlabeled pole mounted
transformers present on the north border and south border of the dairy area in the center. The
transformers are in good condition with no obvious signs of leakage. Two irrigation pipelines
are present along the western and eastern border of this area. A sump pump and irrigation well
are present along the southern border of this site. A drainage ditch trends north/south across this
area.
There is a residence present in the central portion of this site. The house was occupied during the
site reconnaissance and therefore was not accessed. There is a septic system located to the south
of the residence and the leach lines-extend to the west and trend north/south. Also south of the
residence is a propane tank, approximate size of 250-gallons. An unlabeled pad mounted
transformer is also located in this area. There is also a drain present south of the propane tank
which drains into the waste water pond.
To the south of the residence is the milking barn and office. The milking barn has multiple
above ground tanks present inside the building, these tanks contain milk. There are multiple 55-
gallon plastic drums present in the northwest corner of the building. The drums are labeled,
"Liquid Pfite Pipline Cleaner", which is an acid used to clean the drains on the site. The drums
are situated on concrete and there is no visible staining in the area. There is a floor drain present
near the drums. Present throughout the building are trenches and floor drains. These trenches
and floor drains appear to catch excess milk.
20-4322-0 I.PO 1/2019R547 Page 17 of 23
Copyright 1999,Kleinfelder, Inc. .lune 28, 1999
