XE RXES®
a zcL company
September 25, 2013
Via e-mail: mvpeng(a-)_att.net
Mark Vendeiro
MVP Petroleum Engineering, Inc.
PO Box 281,
Folsom, CA 95763, United States
Mark:
This letter outlines the procedure that Xerxes Corporation personnel will follow to Inspect
and repair a Xerxes 10-foot-diameter, 12,000-gallon X 10,000-gallon Double-Wall III,
underground gasoline storage tank, UL#R-8459904. This tank is located at Pacificwest
Petroleum Inc.(ARCO SS) 550 W. Valpico Rd. Tracy, CA 95376
Background
On or about August 01, 2013, Xerxes received a call from you reporting that during a
regularly scheduled interstitial space sensor inspection, Brine had been found in the
Primary product of Diesel fuel. Xerxes asked specific test procedure questions and
requested more details.
Inspection and Repair Procedure
The repair process will follow the Fiberglass Petroleum Tank and Pipe Institute (FPTPI)
Recommended Practice T-90-01 (Remanufacturing of Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP)
Underground Storage Tanks) and Xerxes Confined Space Entry Procedures. Xerxes Certified
Field Service Technicians will do this work.
The first step after the tank is tested and deemed safe for entry. The Xerxes technician will then
enter the tank and make a visual inspection and take internal deflection readings that will
determine if the tank is under stress due to faulty installation. After the Xerxes technician has
discovered the leak or problem, the area will be marked. Xerxes Corporate Professional
Engineers will be contacted and given a repair procedure to follow. The breached/ Fractured
area will be sanded to expose glass fibers and then, using approved UL materials, the area
would be laminated to insure the repaired tank thickness is equal to or greater than the original
inner tank thickness. This work would be done by hand using the contact molding method of
fabrication. No spray equipment would be used. All safety procedures would be followed
including the venting of the tank with a venturi along with constant monitoring of the interior tank
environment to insure safe working conditions.
CORROSIONa
ZCL aZCLcompany XERXES ZCLDUALAM" ZCLTROY = EAM
a zcL company
