[aR E
FUGRO WEST, INC.
1050 Melody Lane,Suite 160
June 26, 1995 Roseville,California 95678
Project No. 9347-0020 Tel: (916)782-2110
FAX: (916)786-7830
Ms. Mary Meays v
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division 0 5 1995
Post Office Box 388
Stockton, California 95201-0388 ENVIRONMEfviAI HE
PERWSERVICES
Subject: Shell Service Station (WIC No. 204-7525-0104)
6131 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, California
Dear Ms. Meays:
Fugro West, Inc., (Fugro) is providing this letter in response to the June 14, 1995,
correspondence from the San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health
Division (SJCPHS/EHD) to Shell Oil Products Company (Shell). The following are
modifications to our proposed investigation on the subject site (figure attached), as requested by
the SJCPHS/EHD:
• Prior to submitting soil samples to the laboratory, Fugro will obtain the concurrence of
the SJCPHS/EHD regarding which samples will be analyzed.
• The soil borings will be abandoned with cement/bentonite grout using a tremmie pipe.
The SJCPHS/EHD will be notified at least 48 hours in advance so that a grout inspection
can be scheduled.
• An additional GeoProbe boring will be advanced near the edge of the property south of
MW-3. The attached figure has been modified as requested and shows the additional
GeoProbe boring location as investigation area 94.
The results of the investigation will be reported to the SJCPHS/EHD and will be used to
determine the next appropriate scope of work.
The depth to ground water is approximately 50 feet below surface. The collection of
ground water samples from the borings will depend,in part, on the penetration of the 1-1/4 inch
diameter push rod assembly to this depth by the GeoProbe. The GeoProbe contractor, Vironex,
of Foster City, California, anticipates the equipment to be used should be adequate for the field
work. Fugro plans to perform the field work on the Pacific Avenue Shell site in conjunction with
the scope of work proposed for the Shell station at 7700 Moreland Court in Stockton. The
assessment for the Moreland Court station was described in Fugro's May 31, 1995, "Site
Investigation Workplan", submitted to Mr. Harlin Knoll of the SJCPHS/EHD.
A member of the Fugro group of companies with offices throughout the world
93470020.FLT -
