San Joaquin County February 18, 7
Ms. Mary Mea s -2- PR3-1
Decommissioning of Wells
The monitoring wells will be decommissioned following.the guidelines set forth in Section 6
of the Well Standards established by San Joaquin County,Public Health Services,
Environmental Health Division. The decommissioning will be performed by a C-57 licensed
well driller under the supervision of a State of California Registered Geologist or Engineer.
Prior to decommissioning, the wells will be cleared of debris to its entire depth to eliminate
any obstructions which might interfere with effective sealing procedures. The well casing
will be grouted. The grout will be mechanically mixed and will consist of approximately 5-
10 gallons of water per sack (94 pounds) of Portland cement. A tremmie pipe will be used to
place the grout from the bottom of the well to the surface. The area within a 1-foot diameter
around the outside of the conductor casing will be excavated to a maximum depth of.3 feet
below the ground surface. The PVC well casing will be cut off six-inches above the bottom
of the excavation and removed. Grout, will be allowed.to spill over;into the excavation and
filled to a thickness of one foot to form a cap a"minimum`of 1 foot in diameter. After the
grout has set, the excavation will be backfilled.with clean native soil. For wells in paved
areas asphalt or concrete will be placed to match existing grades and surfaces.
Two well destruction permits are attached to this work plan. Golder has contacted Mr.
David Chavier of the Bank of Stockton to obtain permission to enter the site at 1245 West
Weber in order to decommission monitoring wells MW-1S and.MW-1D. A minimum 24
hours of notice will be given to the San Joaquin County Public Health Services,
Environmental Health Division and to Mr.David.Chavier prior to the decommissioning.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the undersigned.
Sincerely,
E
GOLDER SOCIATES INC.
is e L.
