Union .lee Company - VIZMr.Street Facility
phase III Continuiiig Re-Excavation Activities
11, Phase III Remediation
Page: 3
size and shape of this excavation may vary according to actual rontarni::ant distrib.:tio
once the excavation is underway. Figure 3 shows the approximate limits of the soil
contamination.
The overburden .vill be stockTiled on the asplialt at the west end of the property. This
stockpile will be sampled. If the results of the contaminated soil are over 50 ppm, then
an aeration permit will be taken out from the Air Pollution Control District. Clean
soils from the west end of the property will be used to backfill the excavation.
The walls and bottom of the excavation will be sampled to insure that all of the
contaminated soil is removed. The Soil will be excavated until an "ND" level is
reached in the sidewalls and at the bottom of the excavatio:.. Samples will be ar alyzed
by a Slate certified mobile lab, Exelchem, which will be on site. Additional
confirmation samples may be sent to Clinical Laboratories of San Bernardino.
Since the water table is slightly artesian, groundwater ;will mare than likely onto the
excavation. If groundwater is impacted by the excavation activities; contaminated
groundwater will be pumped into "Rain For Rent" holding tanks that will be Drought
onto the site. Both the groundwater in the excavation and the water pumped into the
holding tank's will be analyzed. The analysis will be conducted by Excichern
(groundwater in the excavation), and by Clinical Laboratories of Sari Bernardino
— lgroitndwater in the holding tanks). If the groundwaiei' is "NLS then 7t Will 1)e
disposed of to the Stock-ton POTW.
A PID (photo ionization detector) will be present on site during the drilling activities to
monitor the air around thv excavation. The excavation contractor will. be Warren E.
Gomes Excavating, Inc. (Contractors' License No. 279646).
4.0 SAMPLING PROTOCOL
All soil sampling equipment will be thoroughly cleaned with TSP (trisodium phosphate)
before and between sampling to prevent cross contamination.. Soil sampling in the
excavation will be taken with brass tubes, drivon. into the side,,valls and the bottom of
the excavation. The number of samples will be deterinine'd h-d the sii,e of the
excavation.
The soil samples will not have head space and will be immediately sealed in their liners
using aluminum foil lined plastic caps.
