s ai
I
UNION ICE COMPANY
1320 Weber Street, Stockton, California
Re-Excavation Work Plan and
Installation of Extraction Well
1.0 PROJECT IDENTIFICA77ON
WHF Environmental Consultants has been authorized by Union Ice Company to
respond to soil and groundwater contamination discovered during the removal of
underground storage tanks at 1320 Weber Street in Stockton, California. The
following is a two part work plan which calls for: (1) the excavation and remediation
of contaminated soil; ar_d (2) the installation of an extraction well to remove floating
product and address future groundwater treatment.
2.0 SITE DESCRIPTION AND HISTORY
This site, located at 1320 Weber Street in Stockton, California, serves as a cold and
frozen storage facility, in addition to the manufacturing of ice (Figure 1).
Four underground tanks were removed in December 1988. During removal, gasoline
contamination was found in the soils and floating oil the groundwater surface at
approximately 15 feet.
The facility is nearly surrounded by the Stockton Deep Water Channel and Mormon
Slough (Figure 2).
In March of 1989, six monitoring wells were installed by WHF ) nvironmental/Omni
Enterprises, in addition to three previously installed wells by URS. One well, MW--
4D, was installed into the second aquifer to a depth of 60 feet. Apparently,
groundwater contamination is confined to the upper aquifer.
A soil vapor survey, conducted in May 1990, has confirmed the presence of
hydrocarbon contamination in this area, and has indicated a downgradient(SE)
migration of floating product on the groundwater surface(See Plate 3 and Appendix
B).
