Emig 6 <br /> SEC ON 4 <br /> n <br /> ,SI'T'E-SPECIFIC HEALTH AND SAFETY <br /> PLAN <br /> (7.4 <br /> This section describes the potential health and safety hazards and <br /> appropriate procedures to be followed to prevent injury or chemical <br /> exposure during the storage tank closure activities. <br /> Significant site-specific hazards anticipated during tank emptying, <br /> tank removal, and groundwater and soil sampling include the <br /> following: <br /> Underground utilities; <br /> • Heavy construction equipment(backhoes); <br /> • Unstable excavations; <br /> ~ • Motor traffic; <br /> i <br /> 3 �,W' • Beat stress; and <br /> • Exposure to petroleum products and/or vapor. <br /> M 'The urst five of these are classified as physical hazards, while <br /> exposure to petroleum products is considered to be a chemical <br /> hazard. Physical and chemical hazards are described separately <br /> below. <br /> Physical Hazards <br /> Utilities and the underground storage tanks will be located prior to <br /> the initiation of field work. The malities will be located and marked <br /> on the ground surface by Underground Service alert. The actual <br /> location of the tanks will be marked on the ground surface through <br /> . the specialized services of Spe.trum Environmental Services. <br /> Worker safety in the vicinity of heavy equipment, each as ':,e <br /> backhoe, will be stressed on the job site. Safety procedures will <br /> consist of keeping the personnel working in the vicinity of the <br /> backhoe to a minimum, and making the operator aware of personnel <br /> that are present within his work zone.
