KLEINFEL.DER
4 RESULTS
4.1 SOIL-GAS SURVEY
Soil-gas and ground water samples were extracted and analyzed for TPH and BTEX.
Samples were analyzed on site by Tracer Research personnel in their mobile laboratory.
Petroleum hydrocarbon constituents were detected in six of the 15 samples as shown on
Table 3. The highest concentrations were detected in water samples from location M
(520,000 ug/1 TPH, 400,000 ug/l benzene, 12,000 ug/l toluene, 35,000 ug/l ethylbenzene
and 20,000 ug/1 xylene). Significantly Iower concentrations were detected at E, K,L and N.
These locations are all near the ta1lk excavation. Plate 4 depicts the probable lateral extent
of hydrocarbons as detected in ground water collected during the soil-gas survey.
4.2 SOIL ASSESSMENT
The bottom soil sample from each of the three soil borings was submitted to Enseco
Analytical Laboratory for chemical analyses. The samples were analyzed for TPH
purgeable by jC-FID (modified EPA method 8015); BTEX by EPA Method 8020; and
- total organic lead by California analytical Laboratories/Enseco of West Sacramento,
California. The laboratory is certilled by the state of California for the above mentioned
- analyses.
No petroleum hydrocarbon constituents were detected in the soil samples, with the
exception of 5.5 ug/kg of toluene in the sample from B-3. This sample was collected
approximately five feet sou'h of soil-gas survey location M and is the only sample in which
field screening indicated the presence of more than 1 ppmv volatile organics. Analytical
results are summarized on Table 3.
4.3 GROUND WATER ASSESSMENT
One water sample from each well was submitted to California Analytical
Laboratories/Enseco for chemical analyses. The samples were analyzed for TPH
purgeable by GC-FID;BTEX by EVA -Method 602;and total organic lad . Because MW-1
is less than 50.feet from a sewer line, 5-in Joaquin County required that a ground water
>` F15-90-101
; Copyright 1990 KLeinfelder, Inc.
