%Is. Mary Nleays Page 2
July 15. 1991
0
10 to 15 feet. The remainder of the boring, from 15 to 30 feet, was filled with
sand. Both wells were secured with traffic boxes at the ground surface.
Standard EIU, I-West, Inc. Quality AssuranceiQuality Control (QA/QC)
procedures were followed throughout the construction process. All augers
were decontaminated by steam cleaning prior to drilling each well. The
Split spoon sampler was decontaminated prior to each use by washing in an
Alccnox solution followed by a clean water rinse. The brass tube liners for
the sampler were similarly cleaned prior to use. The well casing and
screen were cleaned and decontaminated by steam cleaning prior to use.
Soil cuttings from each boring were placed in labeled 55-gallon drums and
stored on site.
Well Development and 'Water Samnline
Following construction, the new wells were developed by hand-bailing
approximately 15 to 18 gallons (or 12 to 13 well volumes) from each well.
The bailing was continued until temperature, pH, and conductivity
stabilized, and the silt content of the discharge water declined markedly
(Table 1). The pre-existing wells were purged by bailing a similar volume of
water.
QA/QC procedures were followed during development and purging. Priv
to work at each well, the bailer was cleaned and decontaminated with an
Alconox solution followed by a clean water rinse. Bailer cord was replaced
in between sampling at each location. Bailed water and water from the
decontamination procedures was contained in 55-gallon drums and stored
on site.
?,iter development and purging procedures were completed, all wells were
sampled. The wells were sampled with a pre-cleaned Teflon bailer
equipped with a removable petcock. Water was transferred from the bailer
into laboratory-supplied bottles. All samples(water and soil) provided to the
laboratory were labeled and sealed individually in zip-lock type plastic bags,
then placed on ice in a cooler.
Soil and Walar Analyses
The soil and water samples were submitted to Curtis & Tompkins. Ltd., a
California Department of Health Services (DHS) certified laboratory located
in Berkeley, California. The samples were shipped under chain-of-custody
and analyzed according to the following test procedures:
• Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Gasoline --EPA Method 8015-
Modified;
