DISCUSSION OF THE EXISTING SEPTIC SYSTEMS
In accordance with the request by EHD that sufficient replacement area exists for the existing
OWTS,the following information describes these systems and wells: The EHD permits found in
Appendix I document permits granted by EHD to install the applicable wells and septic systems on
the subject property. The aerial photo found at the front of Appendix I illustrate leachfield and well
locations based on these permits and/or direct observations. Radii distances from each well are
noted: 100 ft for the three domestic wells and 200 ft from the irrigation well. This illustrates that a
14,000 sq. ft. replacement area is available for the leachfields that serve the residential structures. If
this area is activated, pumps must be installed into the septic tanks and the effluent pumped to this
replacement area under specific design criteria.
IV. SEPTIC SYSTEM OPERATIONAL PARAMETERS AND COMPONENTS
A. SSS§3.7. SEPTIC TANK SPECIFICATIONS
Septic tanks store accumulated sludge, scum and effluent(clear zone)volumes, which in turn affect
treatment of nitrogen within the tanks. Detention time is calculated below based on the Maximum
ADF as calculated above during the Buddhist New Year, when several thousand people attend:
Detention Time Calculation:
Detention Time=7,500 gal tank operating capacity(8,000 gap x 0.70(30%volume lost to sludee/scum accumulation)
1.5(Peaking factor)x 1,536 MAX gals/day(ADF)
Detention Time=2.3 days for the 8,000 gal Xerxes tank to be installed, thus providing sufficient
hydraulic residence time. The minimum acceptable detention time is 1.0 day.
B. PROPOSED SEPTIC SYSTEM DESIGN/OPERATION FOR THE HEAVEN TEMPLE
Raw wastewater will flow from the Heaven Temple Restroom facilities into a Xerxes® 8,000 gallon,
two compartment septic tank. A Polylok 10,000 gpd PL-525 effluent filter is to be installed at the
outlet of this tank. Effluent then gravity flows to a five-hole Polylok'Rhino 24-inch distribution
box, set on the specified concrete slab, with Polylok Equalizers to equally distributed flow into four
conventional leachline trenches. The perforated laterals are to be capped and laid level. At the ends
of each leachline,a 42 inch, 25-ft deep seepage pit is to be installed. Tightlines are to be placed at
the ends of the leachlines, one ft off the leachline floor, inclined 4 inches to connect with the
perforated pipe in the center of each seepage pit.
Page -9-
Chesney Consulting
