either cut them down or b hered them. They have a tatiful flag flying by their
entrance, but all their other junk flags give it the appearance of a cheap car lot.
The tiny oleandeer bushes are apparently their idea of landscaping, which do
nothing to enhance the beauty of the place or keep down the dust.
This used to be a quiet neighborhood with an almost non existant crime rate,
where the neighbors all got along, and tried to make the neighborhood better. The
VFW's claim was that they would be good neighbors. This has not been the case at
all in my opinion. Prior to this I have been very hesitant about voicing my concerns
except in your meetings, a dissenting letter regarding the site approval, and a
petition signed by most of the neighbors who did not want VFW in our agricultural
community. I feel I have been intimidated and harassed enough. I feel this started
right in your chambers after they won their site approval. You have a camera
during the proceedings so probably you have it on tape. A man in their uniform,
which they claim was not one of their members (then why was he wearing their
uniform) verbally assaulted my neighbor, then me, then swung at me with a cane,
but missed and the cane hit Mrs. Spyksma. Why would he do that when they had
already won their case if they wanted to be "good neighbors". Mrs. Spyksma and I
made a trip to the Sheriffs Office in Stockton on 6/29/2004 and discussed the
aforementioned problems with a deputy. He informed us that some of the problems
are civil matters and regardless what you say in your chambers are not enforcable
by law enforcement. Surely Mr. Fondse having been an ex supervisor must be
aware of this.
I feel VFW is such a big organization, and now because of the war, they are
really pushing their limits to the point where neighbors are just a nuisance to them,
and they will do exactly as they please. I feel my rights are being violated, and I
can assure you my neighbors feel the same. How many civil cases have to be filed
to get them to comply with the rules, and how many neighbors have the money to
file these cases. I implore you to reconsider what a negative impact this site
approval has had on this once quiet, peaceful, desirable neighborhood where
moving was out of the question. The VFW are without a doubt the worst neighbors
I have ever had, and if past performance is any indicator, I don't see it getting
better unless you can impose restrictions that have enforcement of law.
