Health and Safety Plan
The health and safety plan prepared for this work will address the
following areas.
• Excavation safety including shoring requirements,
• Cherrucal hazards during excavation and aeration, and
• Heavy equipment safety
The health and safety plan will also provide information on personal
' protective equipment, personnel monitoring, decontamination, and
emergency procedures
Soil Remediation
So
The soil remediation process will encompass the following steps
• Excavation,
• Excavation confirmation sampling,
• Excavation backfilling,
• Soil Aeration, and
• Aeration Confirmation Sampling
The steps, and the wet weather contingency plan are described in more
detail below
Excavation
' Affected soils from Sites 1 and 2 will be excavated and transported to
the aeration treatment area Because the maximum depth of the
affected soil is no greater than 7 5 feet below ground surface (bgs),
excavation will be conducted with conventional excavation equipment
(backhoes) The excavation sidewalls away from the buildings will be
sloped at a 21 slope Excavation sidewalls adjacent to the buildings will
' be sloped at a 1 1 slope, to allow for maximum soil excavation The
excavation contractor will also be required to bring shoring equipment
to the site Unless the buildings are provided with extensive shoring
and underpinning, excavation cannot be conducted directly adjacent to
5-2
