1 <br /> Preliminary work for the Phase I investigation included preparing <br /> an Investigation Workplan and a site-specific Health and Safety <br /> Plan, and retaining contractors responsible for drilling and <br /> laboratory services. Preparatory work also included obtaining the <br />' necessary permits and locating underground utilities <br /> The investigation Workplan specified the steps to be followed during <br /> field activities (Appendix N) The contractor responsible for the <br /> drilling activities was Spectrum Exploration, Inc., located in <br /> Stockton, California. ERM-West was responsible for overall site <br /> management and submittal of documentation. The laboratory used <br /> by ERM-West was Anametnx, Inc. of San Jose. <br /> A site-specific Health and Safety Plan was also prepared by ERM- <br /> West (Appendix N). Potential hazards addressed in erit plan <br /> included underground utilities, heavy construction equip <br /> ll <br /> rigs), motor traffic, heat stress, and potential exposure to petroleum <br />' product and/or vapor. Included in the plan were the local emergency <br /> and nonemergency telephone numbers for the police, hospitals, and <br /> fire department, as well as a map depicting the locations of the <br />' nearest hospitals. <br /> ERM-West utilized the services of USA to notify the local utilities to <br /> mark buried utility lines in the vicinity of the tank site. One well <br /> permit was required for the monitoring well (labelled MW-5A) and <br /> soil borings. Receipt of a permit from EHD was contingent upon the <br /> submittal and approval of an Investigation Workplan and associated <br /> Health and Safety Pian. A copy of the EHD permit is provided in <br /> Appendix O <br /> 1 <br />' The location of ground water monitoring well MW-5A and soil <br /> borings B1 through B4 installed at the site during the Phase II <br /> investigation are illustrated on Figure 5-3 Well MW-5A was located <br /> to the north of MW-1A, further upgradient from the former tank <br /> location. Soil borings BI through B4 were located to further define <br /> the lateral and vertical extent of petroleum products in soil. <br /> ' Following is a discussion of drilling, soil sampling, monitoring well <br /> construction, monitoring elredevelopment, surveying, <br /> el <br /> water sampling activities fothe Phase II investigation <br /> activities. <br /> • The five borings were drilled <br /> ' using a CME-55 truck-mounted drill rig equipped with continuous <br /> 5-9 <br />
