PHS/EHD comments follow.
Third Quarter 1991 Groundwater Monitorinz Repot
1 PHS/EHD was not notified of the September 9, 1991 sampling event. Please be informed
that PHS/EHD inspections of sampling events are an important aspect of local regulatory
oversight. Prior to any future sampling event, please contact Mary Meays at the number
' below, 48 hours in advance.
2. Monitoring well purge records were not included. These records are important to verify
that groundwater conditions have stabilized prior to sampling This information is
' referenced in the Tri-Regional Recommendations,Appendix A. A copy is enclosed for your
information. Please include monitoring well purge data in all future quarterly reports.
' 3. Tidal influence was suggested to be the cause of shifts from a southwest gradient to a
southeast groundwater gradient Please include in quarterly reports a copy of the tide table
for the date of sampling It may be necessary to do more frequent monitoring of
groundwater depth in order to clarify the cause of fluxations. it also may be necessary to
have the monitoring wells professionally surveyed to more accurately determine
groundwater elevations.
' Intenm Preliminary Assessment Report
4 Organic lead analysis does not differentiate between soluble and insoluble lead.
Unfortunately, total lead concentrations of MW2 or MW3 soil boring samples were not
analyzed. It will be necessary to do additional investigation in order to determine the Ievels
of lead that have a potential impact or that have impacted groundwater. The November 16,
1988 analysis of liquid from the 1515 West Weber tank pit indicated 2.6 ppm lead.
R Dtv%K-of ban Jmqum rtNrsy Hadth Care berm--cs
