SECTION 2
INVESTIGATION ACTIVITIES
1
' ERM proposes to construct and sample, at a minimum, one ground
water monitoring well (MW-5A) and three soil borings (B-1A, B-2A
and B-3A) (Figure 1) The monitoring well and soil borings will be
' installed to provide information regarding the lateral extent of TPH-G,
TPH-D and related BTEX to the north and east of the UST excavation
MW-5A will be located approximately 20 feet north of MW-1A
' Borings B-1A and B-2A will be located approximately 20 feet to the
northwest and northeast of MW-1A, respectively B-3A will be situated
approximately 20 feet to the east of MW-3A
' Based on findings obtained in the field during drilling and sampling,
additional soil borings and/or monitoring wells may be installed The
' criteria for determining whether additional borings/wells are needed
are discussed in the section titled "Drilling Activities and Soil
Sampling "
for Drilling
' ERM-West will utilizeh
the services of Underground Services Alert and
' an underground utilities locator to maximize the likelihood that
borings are placed in locations which are sufficiently removed from
underground utilities and hazards (pipes, electric lines, etc ) The
' proposed drilling locations in this work plan are subject to slight
modifications based on the findings of the subsurface utilities
investigation All of the proposed drilling is to be situated in areas that
' are easily accessible to a drill rig
' Activities and Soil Sampling
' The maximum depth of MW-5A will be 25 feet Based on the results
obtained during the installation of MW-1A, we anticipate that ground
water will be encountered within the first 20 feet of drilling Soil
borings B-1A through B-3A will be drilled to the approximate base of
the unsaturated zone which is estimated to have a maximum depth of
12 feet below the surface
2-1
