Former Tank Sites #1 and #2 using a hollow-stem auger The
following sections describe the field activities performed at each of the
former UST sites
' Former Tank Site #1
Three boring locations were installed at this site, as presented in the
1 workplan Soil borings S1-B2 and S1-B3 were drilled and sampled on
September 8, 1994 (Figure 4-1) The two borings were located in the
interior of the warehouse building, and soil samples were collected
using a split-spoon drive sampler containing an acrylic liner Soil
samples were screened using a PID during sample collection. The PID
readings are included in the driller's logs in Appendix B Soil samples
were collected from three depth intervals from each boring to a total
depth of 18 feet below the top of the warehouse's foundation slab This
total depth was based on the suggestion of the PHD/EHD
representative present on site who recommended that the borings be
extended an additional 3 feet from the proposed 15 feet total depth to
take into account the elevation difference between the top of the
foundation slab and the average ground surface in areas exterior to the
warehouse building Soil samples were collected by cutting the liner
with a decontaminated knife and capping the ends of the liner with
Teflon sheets and plastic end caps The samples were stored on ice
during transport to the laboratory
Soil boring S1-B1 was drilled and sampled on September 28, 1994
within the former excavation footprint. Soil samples were collected
using a split-spoon drive sampler containing 6-inch-long brass sample
tubes Soil samples were screened using a PID during sample
collection The PID readings are included in the driller's logs in
Appendix B Soil samples were collected from three depth intervals
from the boring to a total depth of 15 feet The ends of the brass tubes
were covered with Teflon sheets and plastic end caps and stored on ice
' during transport to the laboratory
' Former Tank Site #2
Four borings were installed at this site, as presented in the workplan.
' Soil boring S2-B3 was drilled and sampled on September 8, 1994
(Figure 4-2) The boring was located in the interior of the warehouse
building Soil samples were collected using a split-spoon drive sampler
containing an acrylic liner The soil samples were screened using a PID
during sample collection The PID readings are included in the
driller's logs in Appendix B Soil samples were collected from four
depth intervals from boring S2-B3 to a total depth of 18 feet below the
4-2
