Workplan for Ozone Sparging
Moore Petroleum Bulk Plant,5491 F,Street,Banta,California
Page 5
Soil Sampling
As previously stated, soil samples will be collected at 5-foot intervals until groundwater is
encountered. Groundwater was encountered during the previous investigation between 5 and 10
feet bgs (Table 3). Due to the shallow depth-to-groundwater at the site, a minimum of one soil
sample will be selected from each sparge well boring. Soil samples will be screened in the field
with a photoionization device. Soil samples will be submitted, under chain-of-custody, to a state-
certified laboratory for chemical analysis. A summary of analytes and analytical methods used is
shown below.
Analyses to be Performed:
Analysis Abbreviation Designation USEPA Method No.
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons TPHg
as Gasoline
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons TPHd Gas/Diesel-
as Diesel
Range 8015 Modified
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons Kerosene Hydrocarbons
as Kerosene
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons TPHmo
as Motor Oil
Benzene
Toluene Aromatic
Eth (benzene BTEX Volatile 8020
Xylenes Total Organics
Tertiary Butyl Alcohol TBA
Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether MTBE Fuel
Di-isopropyl Ether DIPE Oxygenates 82608
Ethyl Tertiary Butyl Ether ETBE
Tertiary Amyl Methyl Ether TAME
Ozone Sparge Compressor
An ozone generator will be used in combination with a sparge compressor and a series of
automated valves to feed the ozone sparge points on a schedule. Ozone will be delivered to each
sparge point through a double-contained i/4-inch polyethylene tubing. One tubing run will extend
from the remediation compound to each of the 10 sparge points shown in Figure 3. A process
flow diagram for the system is shown in Figure 5. The piping will be installed below surface
grade in the same common trench currently housing the SVE piping to the extent feasible. New
trenching will be installed as needed to connect each sparge point.
Power for the remediation equipment will be supplied off the existing breaker box located in the
remediation compound. The ozone generator and compressor require a 20-ampere connection to
