Additional Information for Motoril Delineation
Moore Petroleum Bulk Plant,5491 F Street,Banta,California
Page 2
Weed oil is a petroleum based blend made by combining motor oil, water, and a
surfactant (such as detergent). Also included in the weed oil, to a lesser extent, were
compounds such as dinitro amyl phenol, dinitro butyl phenol, and pentachlorophenol,
which were used as fortifiers for the weed oil. Weed oil was previously used as a weed
suppression and eliminating agent. Weed oil was banned from manufacturing and use in
1970.
ADDITIONAL SAMPLING
Due to this recent information supplied by Mr. Moore, Apex proposes to determine if the
dissolved phase TPHmo reported in groundwater samples collected from boring CPT-2 is
actual or is weed oil by analyzing additional samples collected from the area around
boring CPT-2 at a depth of 30 feet (below ground surface)bgs, sample location shown on
Figure 3. Samples will be collected by advancing an auger to a depth of 30 feet bgs and
using a hydro punch to collect a groundwater sample from 30 to 32 feet bgs. The
groundwater sample will be analyzed for the following analytical suite list:
Analysis Abbreviation I Designation I USEPA Method No.
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons—F TPHg
as Gasoline
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons TPHd Gas/Diesel-
as Diesel
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons Range
as Kerosene Kerosene Hydrocarbons
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons TPHmo
as Motor Oil
Benzene 8260B
Aromatic
Toluene BTEX Volatile
Eth (benzene Organics
Xylenes (Total)
Tertiary Butyl Alcohol TBA
Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether MTBE Fuel
Di-isopropyl Ether DIPE Oxygenates
Ethyl Tertiary Butyl Ether ETRE
Tertiary Amyl Methyl Ether TAME
dinitro amyl phenol DAP 8270
dinitro butyl phenol DBP Weed Oil
2-sec 4-butyl dinitrophenol dinoseb Fortifiers 8151
pentachlorophenol PCP 8270
REVISED MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION PLAN
Due to the recent information, Apex proposes to proceed with the installation of
monitoring well MW-15 at the originally proposed depth of 20 feet bgs. On April 25,
2007 Apex submitted an Environmental Right of Entry Agreement to Jon Devish of
Union Pacific Railroad Company, and is currently awaiting a response.
