Vapor Extraction System Sample Calculations
Moore Petroleum,Inc.,5491 "F"Street,Banta,CA
In the case of September 19, 1995, the average daily extraction rate of TPH; as gasoline, for the
period between August 15, 1995 and September 19, 1995 is found by averaging
extraction rate on August 15, 1995 and September 19, 1995. This is done asfollowdaily
r
(1.3 lb-+8.0lb )
day2 -day—=4.7—
TPH,as gasoline
ay
The result is 4.7 lb/day of TPH, as gasoline. This method may be applied to the benzene
extraction rates for this same period resulting in 0.10 lb/day of benzene. These average extraction
rates may be applied over the time period of interest. From August 15, 1995 to September 19,
1995, the vapor extraction system operated for 739 hours. The operating time maybe converted
to units of days and then multiplied by the average daily extraction rate for each substance of
interest. The result is as follows:
lb
TPH,as gasoline: 4.7 x739hrsx lday =140 lb
day 24 hrs
Benzene: 0.10 lb x739hrsx 1 day =3.1 lb
f day 24 hrs
t
Therefore, from the period of August 15, 1995 through September 19, 1995, 140 pounds of TPH,
a
as gasoline, was extracted and 3.1 pounds of benzene was extracted. To calculate the cumulative
quantity of extracted substances, the quantity extracted for a period will be added to the previous f
cumulative quantity extracted for each substance. In the case of TPH, as gasoline, 140 pounds
will be added to 1,260 pounds, which will yield 1,400 pounds. In the case of benzene, 3.1 pounds
will be added to 8.4 pounds to yield 11.5 pounds of benzene.
4
1
kI
-r
