Vapor Extraction System Sample Calculations
Moore Petroleum,Inc.,5491 'T"Street,Banta,CA
Calculating Exhaust Stack Flow Rate
The manufacturer of the RSI unit supplies the following information to aid in the calculation of
the exhaust flow rate:
stackfl ( M)SCF ow = RPM • DISP(in 3) • e
2 revolutions • 1728 in
3
ft 3
where,
RPM = engine displacement (REv)
nrLv
DISP = engine displacement (in 3) = 140 in 3
e = efficiency factor = 0.75 (per manufacturers guidelines)
This process may be applied to the data collected on September 19, 1995. On this date,the RSI
unit was operating at 2,500 RPM. The resulting stack flow rate can be calculated in the following
manner:
2500 Mm • 140(in 3) • 0.75
stack flow(SCFM) _ = 76 SCFM
3
2 revolutions 1728 in
ft 3
Therefore, with the unit operating at 2,500 RPM,the resulting stack flow rate is 76 SCFM.
i
.1
{
ie
L f
{
' l
