Results Report for Limited Subsurface Investigation
Third Quarter 2000 Groundwater Monitoring Report
Moore Petroleum Bulk Plant,5491 F Street,Banta,California
Deep Soil Boring
Boring SB-Deep was located at the source area of petroleum contamination at the site. Boring
SB-Deep was advanced to assess the vertical extent of petroleum contamination in soil and
groundwater near well MW-8 (Figure 2). Boring SB-Deep was drilled to a depth of 39 feet with
soil samples being collected continuously. Field screening of the soil sample intervals indicated
slight concentrations of volatile organic compounds between the surface and the 25-feet bgs
level. Apex and Ms. Margaret Lagorio with the County selected the soil sample intervals that
were submitted for laboratory analysis. The sample intervals selected were based on field
observations including soil lithology, visual and olfactory observations, depth to first
encountered groundwater, and headspace readings taken with a photoionization device in the
field. Groundwater and slight petroleum odors were first detected at 9-feet bgs in boring SB-
Deep. At 13-feet bgs, clayey silt was encountered to 27-feet bgs. However, at 25-feet bgs, the
soil became moist not saturated suggesting an impermeable layer. In addition, no odors were
detected at the 25-to 27-feet bgs interval. From 27-feet bgs to the bottom of the boring (39-feet
bgs) medium grained micaceous sand was encountered. The sand was saturated and free of
petroleum odors. Apex and the County chose the samples from 5-, 10-, 15-, 20-, 25-, 30-, 35-,
37-, and 39-feet bgs from boring SB-Deep for submission to the analytical laboratory.
Well Construction Details
As previously mentioned, borings MW-10, MW-11, and MW-12 were converted to 2-inch
diameter monitoring wells. Well construction details and boring logs are included in Appendix
B. The wells were installed, surveyed, and developed in accordance with Apex Standard
Operating Procedures (SOP) included with this report in Appendix C.
Soil Analytical Results
Soil samples collected were submitted to Acculabs, Inc. of Davis California, a state-certified
laboratory for analysis of-
Analysis
f:Anal sis USEPA Method No.
TPH as Gasoline 8015 Modified
TPH as Diesel 8015 Modified
TPH as Kerosene 8015 Modified
BTEX 8020
Five Fuel Oxygenates 8260
TBA, MTBE, DIPE,ETBE, and TAME
Fuel Additives 8260
EDB and 1,2-DCA)
