 s
Interim Results Report for Ozone Sparge Well Installation
Moore Petroleum Bulk Plant,5491 F Street,Banta,California
Page 5
An eight-inch borehole was advanced to approximately 25 feet below ground surface (bgs) using
hollow stem auger drilling equipment. Soil samples were collected at 5-foot intervals for
classification, field screening and chemical analysis. Soil samples were classified by the Unified
Soil Classification System. Boring logs detailing the construction and lithology encountered
during drilling, are included. as Appendix C. A minimum of one soil sample was selected from
each sparge well boring for analysis. Sol] samples were submitted for chemical analysis under
chain-of-custody to California Laboratory Services of Rancho Cordova, California, a state-
certified laboratory(Appendix D). Field screening consisted of soil headspace analysis using a
portable photoionization detector.
One sparge point was installed per boring. The sparge point consisted of an 18-inch Iong by 2-
inch diameter diffuser. A3/4-inch diameter Schedule 40 PVC riser was connected to the diffuser
and extended to surface. The filter pack was placed from one foot below each diffuser to two
feet above. A two foot thick bentonite seal was placed on top of the filter pack. A neat cement
sanitary seal was placed from the top of the bentonite seal to two feet bgs. The wellheads were
secured with a locking, water-tight cap and a traffic-rated wellhead vault box which was installed
flush with the ground surface. Well construction details are summarized in Table 1.
A summary of analytes and analytical methods used is shown below.
Anal sis Abbreviation Designation USEPA Method No.
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons TPHg
as Gasoline
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons TPHd Gas/Diesel-
as Diesel
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons Range 8015 Modified
Kerosene Hydrocarbons
as Kerosene
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons TPHmo
as Motor Oil
Benzene Aromatic
Toluene BTEX Volatile 8021
Eth Ibenzene
Xylenes (Total) Organics
Tertiary Butyl Alcohol TBA
Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether MTBE Fuel
Di-isopropyl Ether DIPE Oxygenates 82606
Ethyl Tertiary Butyl Ether ETBE
Tertiary Amyl Methyl Ether TAME
