0971c*-1
SAMPLING PLAN FOR
THE FIELD AVENUE ANNEX FOR
LIKA CORPORATION
Stockton, California
1.0 PURPOSE OF THE SAMPLING PLAN
The objectives of this sampling program are to conduct a preliminary
investigation of the vertical and horizontal extent of contamination due
to a surface spill and to determine the extent of subsurface
contamination, including contamination of groundwater, resulting from
leaking plumbing, and a leaking sump at the Lika Field Avenue Annex
(Figure 1) . The surface spill occurred at the rear of the Field Avenue
annex. It is believed that a small amount of copper sulfate solution was
spilled onto the dirt strip between the foundation of the annex and the
paved boat storage yard. We anticipate the contamination to be limited
to the near surface. The sump, which may be the biggest source of
contamination, is located in the wet process room. The sump has been
attacked by the acid copper sulfate solution used in the manufacturing
process and has been breached. The other source of contamination may be
a deteriorated section of ductile iron pipe located beneath the concrete
floor in the front of the building.
The sampling plan is separated into two phases. The precise nature of
the second phase will be based upon what is discovered in the first phase.
2.0 SAMPLING PLAN DESCRIPTION
2.1 Phase 1
This phase will examine the suspected surface contamination along the
backside of the Field Avenue annex. It will also investigate whether
subsurface contamination has left the facility and gotten into
groundwater.
