r
L
MEETING MINUTES -
JULY 10,1998 DRAFT
DISCO PROPERTY
• Ron indicated his concern that pumping wells located south of the Disco Property may
be influencing flow, even though they are more than 2,000 feet away. He indicated that
flow influences may be exerted at distances of 3 to 5 times the depth of the well.
• Ron recommended that Del Monte destroy the three production wells at Plant 33 if they
are no longer being used to avoid the possibility that they may act as vertical conduits.
Steve Ronzone indicated that the company intended to sell the facility in the next three
years and a new owner may want the wells for use. Ron felt that 3 years was too long to
wait, he will send DelMonte the County ordinance on closing wells.
3) Liz summarized the cross sectional analysis discussion from the previous meeting.
• It was agreed that some corrections to tables should be made and that the two existing
deep wells would be added to the cross sections. Liz also agreed to update the analysis
to include soil and groundwater data from future studies.
• Ron requested Del Monte to add historic groundwater elevations to cross sections. He
agreed that analytical data could continue to be contained in tables.
4) The workplan and addendum were discussed:
• Ron suggested that Del Monte conduct the investigation in phases and said that he
would like to see the next phase of investigation focus on the source area in order to
evaluate reactivating the remediation system. He recommended that 5 cone
penetrometer (CPT)logs be obtained, one near NP-1 and the other four located about 30
to 40 feet away to the north, south, east, and west. Two others to the south on the
shoulder of the freeway may also be useful. In a discussion regarding the need for
approval from CalTrans in order to conduct off-site work, Ron indicated that CalTrans
has promised one-day approval.
• There were concerns expressed regarding the feasibility of using CPTs at this site given
the dense clays that occur here. Liz asked about contingency plans if soils were found to
be too stiff for CPT use. Ron said Gregg Drilling had recently done CPTs in the area and,
and based on its success in that case, are not expected to have a problem at the Disco
property.
• Ron suggested phasing the work such that Phase 1 = CPTs,Phase 2=hydropunch or
other groundwater screening sampling, and Phase 3 = Soil Borings and monitoring
wells.
• Ron indicated the UST Fund (Jim Munch) was approving work similar to what he is
requiring at DISCO,and that we should have no problem having our plan approved.
• Everyone agreed that future quarterly monitoring events will include updated data
tables and groundwater gradient maps to accompany the laboratory data.
• Schedule for Phase I of the investigation:
➢ CH2M HILL draft to Del Monte by 7/27/98
➢ Del Monte review and comment by 8/3/98
➢ Final draft from CH2M HILL to Del Monte for transmittal to PHS/EHD
by 8/6/98.
