Filbert Street
Stockton, CA
F
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division
(PHS/EHD) has reviewed the work proposal for the SVE system dated November 1,
1995, prepared by CH2M Hill for the above referenced site.
The proposal states that the borehole will be drilled to about 80 feet below
grade and that the screened interval of the casing will be placed so there is 10
feet of screen below first encountered water and 10 feet of screen above first !
encountered water. There are existing monitoring wells and water level
information on this site so the screened interval placement should be decided `
prior to drilling. On October 18, 1995, depth to water at this site was about
65 feet below grade. The existing vapor extraction wells are screened from 59
to 69 feet below grade. During the drilling of SVE2 odor was noted at about 50
feet below grade and the odor diminished at about 65 feet below grade.
PHS/EHD recommends that the screened interval of the proposed VES wells be placed
from 50 to 70 feet below grade. This will allow for fluctuations in the water
level and .provide alarge screened interval in the current vadose zone.
In addition, the proposal states that SB-1.2 will be converted to a SVE well only
if, PID readings are above 100 ppm when screening for petroleum hydrocarbons in
the soil during drilling. In the past groundwater contamination has been
remediated at sites in San Joaquin County with soilvapor extraction systems.
This borehole should be converted to a well and used for vapor extraction, air
inlet or as an observation/test well.
The permit for the installation of the SVE system wells will be issued once the
above comments have been addressed.
If you have any questions contact Margaret Lagorio at (209)468-3449.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division.

MargamSenior REHS Diane M.
