Soon Kim
Page 2
At the August 3 , 1995, meeting attended by Steve Ronzone from Del
Monte, it appeared that Del Monte would propose additional wells
that could be used as vapor extraction, air inlet or observation
points . This further work has not been proposed and in the
"Intrinsic Bioremediation Demonstration" it states that
confirmation sampling in other areas of the groundwater
contamination plume may not be necessary and that "this should be
further discussed and evaluated after four quarters of data is
collected" .
PHS/EHD is concerned with the efficiency of the existing air sparge
and vapor extraction system because the air sparge and vapor
extraction wells are in the same bore hole. Evaluation of an
efficient air sparge/vapor extraction system should be made to
investigate this alternative for active remediation of the whole
site . Submit to PHS/EHD a work plan for additional wells by
November 10 , 1995 .
The "Quarterly Monitoring Results" indicate continued high levels
of contamination in groundwater samples collected from MW-DIS-1 and
MW-DIS-2 and the levels are so high the samples must be diluted by
the laboratory prior to analysis. In the future, please note on
groundwater monitoring result tables, samples that have been
diluted.
Del Tech' s field notes are not included in the quarterly report .
Please provide PHS/EHD with Del Tech' s field notes for all past
site work and include them in all future quarterly reports .
Thank you for the receipts from Port Costa Materials . The total
amount of soil generated from November 1994 through February 1995
was not provided nor was an explanation provided as to how the
drill cuttings were shown to be clean or contaminated. The
receipts indicate that 10 drums of contaminated water were
received, if the drums were 55 gallon drums this would be 550
gallons of water. Pump test data indicates that 1000 to 1200
gallons of water should have been generated. Please clarify the
tt amount of water generated during the pump test and amount of water
f disposed of at Port Costa in the next quarterly report . Also
report the disposition of the water purged from the monitoring
wells prior to their sampling in all quarterly reports .
PHS/EHD recently noticed that the soil boring and well completion
logs for AS/SVE-1, AS/SVE-2, and NPI have start and finish dates
for 1995 and this work was performed in 1994 . Please correct the
dates on these logs accordingly.
The schematic, for the new vapor extraction system does not indicate
that there is instrumentation for measuring pressure or flow rates
at the wellheads . This instrumentation should be included at the
wellheads . Please provide PHS/EHD with the as built specifications
