E, k4 KLEINFFLDER
An employee owned company
File No. 12280.MON n
May 22 2003
 Z
Mr. Michael J. Infurna
304 E. Weber Avenue
Third Floor
Stockton;California 95202-2708 pE
RE: Drill Cuttings,Rinse Water, and Purge Water Disposal
Ozone Sparge, Soil Vapor Extraction, and Groundwater Monitoring Wells
Del Monte Foods, Inc.
Stockton, California
Dear Mr. Infurna:
The installation of the five clustered ozone sparge wells (OS-1 through OS-5) and five clustered
soil vapor extraction wells (VE-1 through VE-5) at the Disco site is now complete. The ozone
sparge wells and vapor extraction wells were installed in accordance with the corrective action
plan prepared by Kleinfelder and approved by the San Joaquin County Environmental Health
Department (EHD) titled "Corrective Action Plan, Del Monte Disco Site, Stockton, California",
dated January 9, 2003. During the drilling operation drill cuttings, decontamination rinse water,
and purge water were contained in 55-gallon drums and stared on the Disco site pending the
laboratory analysis.
Soil samples were collected during the drilling operation from the ozone sparge wells for logging
purposes and possible laboratory analysis. At this time a total of fifteen soil samples were
collected from various intervals of the ozone sparge wells and submitted for laboratory analysis.
The soil samples were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline, benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, and xylene, methyl tert-butyl ether, tert-amyhnethyl ether, di-isopropyl ether, ethyl
tert-butyl ether, tert-butyl alcohol, 1,2-dibromoethane, and 1,2-dichloroethane. There were no
detectable concentrations at or above the laboratory reporting limits for the above stated analysis
in the soil samples analyzed from OS-1, OS-2, OS-3, OS-4, and OS-5. Attached is a copy of the
complete laboratory reports for your review. At this time Kleinfelder on Del Monte's behalf and
approval would like to formally.inform the EHD of the disposal of the drummed cuttings and
decontamination water generated from OS-1, OS-2, OS-3, and OS-4 by spreading the cuttings
and dispensing the rinse water to the ground surface at. the Disco Site as discussed over the
telephone.
The remaining soil cuttings generated from the installation tasks of the vapor extraction wells
that displays characteristics of impact due to former operations at the site will be stockpiled on
12280-MON/ST03L273 Page I of 2
©2003 Kleinfelder,Inc.
