J
RESNA
SITE SAFETY PLAN
FACILITY BACKGROUND
The property is occupied by the Smith Canal Pumping Plant operated by the Municipal
: j Utilities Department. The site was formerly occupied by the Waste Water Treatment Plant.
The site accommodated a 5,000 gallon underground (u/g) diesel storage tank for use by
auxiliary power generators.
An estimated 1100 gallons of diesel fuel was reportedly leaked from the 5,000 gallon u/g
fiberglass tank as a result of an inadvertent puncture. Investigations conducted in May
1988 and January 1990 indicate elevated levels of petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHD)
3
were present in the vicinity of the tank. On February 28, 1992 the 5,000 gallon ulg diesel
tank was removed. A soil sample collected beneath the center of the tank at a depth of 18
feet below grade contained a TPHD concentration of 340 parts per million (ppm).
..J
WORK PLAN
i
Task One: Excavate between 1500-2000 cubic yards of soil, approximately half of which
is contaminated. Pump out groundwater that flows into the pit.
€ - Task Two: Collect soil and groundwater samples.
rn
r•
ff
 PAGE 2
