RESNA
SITE SAFETY PLAN
E
FACII.I'TY BACKGROUND
The property is occupied by the Smith Canal Pumping Plant operated by the Municipal
Utilities Department. The site was formerly occupied by the Waste Water Treatment Plant.
F._ The site accommodated a 5,000 gallon underground (u/g) diesel storage tank for use by
auxiliary power generators.
An estimated 1100 gallons of diesel fuel was reportedly leaked from the 5,000 gallon u/g
1 fiberglass tank as a result of an inadvertent puncture. Investigations conducted in May
1988 and January 1990 indicate elevated levels of petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPED)
were present in the vicinity of the tank. On February 28, 1992 the 5,000 gallon u/g diesel
tank was removed. A soil sample collected beneath the center of the tank at a depth of 18
feet below grade contained a TPED concentration of 340 parts per million (ppm).
WORK PLAN
Task One: Drilling and sampling a total of nine soil borings in the vicinity of the former
tank location. Two of these borings will be converted to groundwater
monitoring wells.
Task Two: Monitoring well development and associated groundwater monitoring and
sampling.
J
.1
r.l
i
PAGE Z
r-
_rJ
