(c) (3) .) :
Destruction of all monitoring wells, ozone sparge wells, and extraction wells on site in anticipation of
subsurface demolition.
COMMENTS AND CONDITIONS:
1 . As a condition to permit destruction of the various wells and remediation system on site, the
existing ozone sparge system must be removed before subsurface demolition. The system
should be removed, handled, and stored with care in anticipation of future use at the site.
2. b1W-1, 2, 3,4, and MW-5, sparge points SP1 , 2, 4, 5, 7, and 8, and vapor extraction wells
VEW3/AS3, VEW1 /t1S1 and VEW2/AS2 must be destroyed by over-drilling due to length of
the well screen and proximity to the contamination plume. Remaining wells and sparge points
may be destroyed by pressure-grout.
3. Selected wells must be replaced within six months of destruction (2 monitoring quarters). If
replacement of the monitoring wells could not be implemented due to structural obstruction or
on-going site redevelopment work, alternative technology to collect groundwater samples and
provide monitoring data of the groundwater contamination plume must be implemented.
4. Well destruction permit has been issued (SR 36946). EHD staff must be present at the time of
well destruction.
5. The cost of replacement of the monitoring wells, or portions of the cost of using different
technology to obtain groundwater samples as an alternative to monitoring wells, and cost of
reinstallation of the ozone sparge system, might not be eligible for reimbursement from the State
Underground Storage Tank Clean Up Fund.
REASONS FOR DISAPPROVAL OF THE WORKPLAN (H&S 25299.37, subd.(C)(3).):
None
DATED Februazy3 2004 BY
C: Treadwell & Rollo — David Dixon, RG 4
C: RWQCB, Central Valley Region — James L.
