a ANK Aft
"--3. 404 WEST FREMONT STREET
WKA No. 1628.09
!_1August 31, 2001
J Page 2
The SVES removes the petroleum hydrocarbons by inducing air flow through the soil using a
vacuum pump. The vacuum acts to draw the petroleum hydrocarbon vapors to the VEWs where it
is removed. The SVES also stimulates biodegradation and in conjunction with air sparging,
removing residual petroleum hydrocarbons trapped in the vadose zone and below the water table.
Site Description
The site is located on the southwest corner of the intersection of West Fremont and Van Buren
Streets in Stockton, about 800 feet north of the Stockton Deep Water Ship Channel. Surface
elevation on site is approximately 10 feet above sea level. Local terrain is relatively flat with
little relief.
The site is bound to the west and south by vacant lots and to the north and east by West Fremont
Street and Van Buren Street, respectively. The site is mostly paved with asphalt. A small
unoccupied masonry building is located on the northern part of the site. The Crystal Creamery
r1
refrigerated warehouse and loading dock is located in the southern portion of the site. The
former underground storage tank was located between the two buildings as shown on Plate 2.
The Chase Chevrolet property located to the east of the site at 423 North Madison Street is
reported to have soil and ground water contamination as a result of leaking underground fuel
>> storage tanks. This property covers two city blocks between Fremont Street to the north, Lindsay
Street to the south, Van Buren Street to the west, and Madison Street to the east.
The soil and ground water contamination is reported to be located beneath two areas of the Chase
' Chevrolet property: 1)near the northeast corner of Fremont and Madison Street; and 2) near the
western border along Van Buren Street. The contamination along Van Buren Street is a concern
=`3 due to the elevated concentrations of gasoline contamination detected in ground water samples
from the three monitoring wells located there, and the proximity of the contamination to the
r_ Crystal Creamery property. One of the three wells is reported by RESNA in their April 16, 1992
4 WK
