One soil sample collected at 15 feet below grade from each boring
-- was tested and revealed TPHg concentrations of 0.2 mg/kg in the sample from boring B 1 and
28.6 mg/kg in the sample from boring B2.
In addition to the soil borings, AGS deepened the existing excavation and obtained soil samples
+' S 1 and S2 at depths of 14 and 12 feet, respectively. Test results revealed TPHg concentrations of
2,241 mg/kg in sample S 1 and 2.1 mg/kg in sample S2. Test results of a water sample collected
.;r. from well MW1 sometime between October 29 and November 11, 1986,revealed a TPHg
concentration of 11.58 mg/1 (11,580 ug/L) and a benzene concentration of 1.539 mg/l (1,539
;. ug/L)
=a Soil samples S-16-1, S-16-2, S-18-3, and S-18-5 were collected during additional excavation of
contaminated soil on January 14, 1987. The samples were collected from depths of 16 and 18
feet. Test results revealed TPHg concentrations ranging from 0.8 mg/kg to 596 mg/kg.
The excavation was reportedly deepened on July 29, 1987, to a depth of approximately 22 feet.
No record of soil sampling during this excavation was found on file with the SJCEHD. The
excavation was reportedly backfilled with clean imported soil and the contaminated soil was
stockpiled on-site.
On January 13, 1988, a representative of AGS visited the site and used a portable soil vapor
laboratory to evaluate the lateral extent of hydrocarbon contamination in both the soil and ground
water. Samples collected during the soil vapor investigation reported no detectable levels of
BTEX (Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, or Xylenes) above a detection level of 2 parts per
million(ppm). Results of the soil vapor survey are included in an AGS report dated March 15,
;1 1988.
A January 11, 1991 AGS letter to Crystal Creamery reported that a composite sample of
stockpiled soils had been analyzed for TPHg and BTEX. Results of the laboratory tests were
below detection levels; however the stockpiled soils were removed at the request of Crystal
Creamery and transported to Holt Dump near Stockton.
i -
.`
INK
W..r.r f°:-b•WAR
