A sheen of product was observed on the water prior to sampling. Test results revealed a
TPHg concentration of 20,000 µg/l and elevated BTEX concentrations.
During December 1992 WKA installed and sampled three monitoring wells (MW2, MW3, and
F MW4)at the locations shown on Plate 2. Results of the investigation indicated that gasoline and
BTEX contamination in ground water is concentrated to the north and west of the former fuel
tank, based on analytical results of water samples from well MW4 and product observed on the
water surface in well MW 1. Trace concentrations of gasoline and BTEX were detected in the
water sample collected from well MW2; no detectable concentrations of gasoline and only trace
toluene concentrations were observed in the sample collected from well MW3. Neither gasoline
F=:<? nor BTEX were detected in any of the soil samples collected during well installation.
On December 1, 1993, wells MW2,MW3 and MW4 were sampled. Well MWl was not
sampled due to free product observed on the water. Test results revealed gasoline contamination
in water samples from wells MW3 and MW4; no detectable concentrations of gasoline were
revealed in the water sample collected from well MW2.
WKA installed monitoring wells MW5 and MW6 northwest and west, respectively, in April
1994. Soils encountered during installation of the wells did not exhibit evidence of petroleum
hydrocarbon contamination. Laboratory analyses did not detect petroleum hydrocarbons in any
of the six soil samples submitted for analysis. Initially, groundwater samples from both MW5
and MW6 showed relatively low concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons. Subsequent
samples, however, have shown increasing concentrations in MW5 and no detectable
concentrations in MW6.
Beginning with a sampling event on December 21, 1994, off-site well SMW2, located just south
i of the site, was incorporated into the groundwater-monitoring program for the site. Petroleum
i
-' hydrocarbons have not been detected in this well.
INK
VWMI AC U-KUHL
