Store the samples under ice and transport the samples in a chilled ice chest to a State-
certified laboratory for analysis.
8 . Screen soil sample duplicates for the presence of volatile organics using a photo-ionization
detector (PID) pre-calibrated to isobutylene.
9. Log borings in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System.
10. Selected soil samples will be analyzed for TPH-g, BTE&X, MTBE, TBA, DIPE, ETBE and
TAME.
11 . Four boring will be completed as a one-inch diameter ground water monitoring well in
accordance with the design in Figure 3 .
i
-
12 . Develop each monitoring well using a stainless steel bailer until water is essentially sediment
free.
!
4,2, COLLECTION OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
1 . No sooner than 48 hours after installation of ground water monitoring wells, measure to the
nearest 0. 01 foot; the static water level in the new wells.
2. Using a dedicated bailer surge and purge all ground water monitoring wells. At least three
volumes of water will be removed from each sampling well to stabilize temperature, pH, and
conductivity; stabilization parameters will be measured at one-volume intervals. Ground
water samples will be collected using polyethylene disposable bailers; samples will be
collected in 40-m1 VOA vials preserved with hydrochloric acid.
3 . Label and log water samples on a chain-of-custody form.
4. Store the samples in a chilled container and transport under chain-of-custody procedure to
a state-certified laboratory for analysis. Water samples will be analyzed for TPH-g, BTE&X,
MTBE, TBA, DIPE, ETBE and TAME.
5 . Store purged water in a properly labeled D.O.T. model 17H 55-gallon drum on-site, in an
area inaccessible to the general public, pending analytical results.
i
i
